What resources are available for seniors who may need assisted living in southeastern Michigan?

Here are some online resources if you're exploring assisted-living options in the region:  

  • Area Agency on Aging: AAA 1-B is a nonprofit organization that provides services and programs to help older adults, people with disabilities, and family caregivers in southeast Michigan. It was established in 1974 and is a part of a national network of Area Agencies on Aging. AAA 1-B offers direct care programs for seniors, along with funding and support for many programs provided by its community partner organizations.
  • National Council on Aging: The NCOA is a non-profit that provides info and resources to seniors and their families. Their website has a section on assisted living, which includes info on what to look for in a community, how to choose the right one, and how to pay for it.
  • AARP: AARP is a membership organization for people over 50. They offer a variety of resources for seniors, including info on assisted living. Their website has a section on assisted living, which includes info on what to consider when making a decision, how to find and tour communities, and how to talk to your family about it.
  • Assisted Living Locators: Assisted Living Locators is a free service that helps seniors find communities that meet their needs. Their website lets you search for communities in your area and read reviews from other seniors and their families.
  • Your local government: Many local governments have offices that provide assistance to seniors and their families. These offices may be able to provide you with info on communities in your area, as well as financial assistance programs that can help you pay for assisted living.
  • Your family and friends: Talk to your family and friends about your decision to move to assisted living. They may be able to offer you support and advice.
  • Aging.com: Resources and guides for healthy aging, including how to manage finances, housing, and health.
